About Me
Dr. Sophia Fagan is an associate veterinarian at Metropolitan Veterinary Associates and part of our rotating small animal medicine and surgery intern class of 2024 – 2025. Her love for animals began at a young age when she was constantly caring for injured wildlife, and orphaned neonate animals. She attended Fairfield University in Connecticut for her undergraduate where she majored in Biology and minored in Health Studies. During her undergraduate she conducted research on human Leukemia cancer and traveled to the Atlantic Rainforest in Brazil to do research on endemic species at risk of becoming extinct. After graduating from undergrad she spent a year at Yale University School of Medicine doing research on rare human genetic diseases affecting pediatric children.
Dr. Fagan obtained her degree in veterinary medicine from the University of Pennsylvania. During this time she discovered her love of shelter medicine and international veterinary medicine. She often spent her free time volunteering for local Philadelphia organizations including Project MEOW, PAWS, and Philly Street Dog Coalition. She also traveled to a small village in Thailand to perform spays and neuters on the stray dog and cat population.
Dr. Fagan’s professional goals include improving international access to veterinary care and volunteering at shelters during her off days.
When Dr. Fagan is not working she loves going to Flyers games with her fiancé Riley. She also enjoys baking, bike riding, and doing various craft projects. She has a golden retriever named Rivers, and 3 cats named Theodore, Gus, and Gritty.
“My favorite part of veterinary medicine is being able to create special bonds with owners and their pets during stressful times of need. I know what it is like to have a sick animal, and want owners to know I will do everything in my power to help their pets. This ties into my favorite quote, “To the world you may be one person, but to one person (or animal) you may be the world”.”
