About Me
Dr. Sam Akerley is an associate veterinarian at Metropolitan Veterinary Associates and part of our rotating small animal medicine and surgery intern class of 2025 – 2026. Dr. Akerley grew up on NH and received her Bachelors from Wheaton College (MA) with the intent to work in the human mental health field. She soon realized that she preferred her patients to be a bit furrier and have more than two legs, so she attended the Veterinary Nursing program at Purdue University. Sam worked as a Veterinary Technician in NH for 6 years before moving down to Philadelphia. In Philly she worked as a CVT at Society Hill Veterinary Hospital and then PennVet while attending the UPENN Post-Baccalaureate program. She then went on to obtain her degree in veterinary medicine from the University of Pennsylvania.
Dr. Akerley’s professional interests include dermatology, pathology, and behavior. She hopes to pursue a residency in dermatology following her internship.
Sam lives in Narberth with her boyfriend, his two kids, and their two cats. In her free time she enjoys working in her flower garden, playing music (poorly), doing puzzles, and getting lost in the woods.
