Dr. Jacqui Niles is a uniquely qualified board certified surgeon, having completed not one, but two Surgical Residencies. One in soft tissue and oncologic Surgery in the UK and one in orthopedic, soft tissue and oncologic surgery in the USA. She has co-edited and written surgical books on small animal surgery, taught numerous veterinarians (including some working at MVA), and has over 20 years of surgical experience in oncologic, soft tissue, and orthopedic surgery.
Dr. Niles earned her veterinary degree with honors from the Royal Veterinary College, London, England in 1993. Dedicating herself completely to surgery, she completed two separate surgical Residencies, getting a diverse education in advanced surgical techniques. During this time, she moved from England to the United States to train at The Ohio State University. After completion of her training, she spent several years on faculty at Purdue University teaching students, interns and residents.
During her University years, Dr. Niles had numerous publications and became Internationally recognized. She is co-editor of and contributing author to The BSAVA Manual of Canine and Feline Abdominal Surgery, the second edition of which was published in 2015. The manual has sold world-wide and been translated into numerous different languages. She has lectured both nationally and internationally on a variety of surgical topics and has provided continuing education at conferences and teaching laboratories in the United States.
She joined MVA in 2008, and performs all aspects of soft tissue, oncologic and orthopedic surgeries. She has a special interest in oncologic surgery, porto-systemic shunts, thoracic surgery, wound reconstruction, and airway surgery. She also enjoys tibial plateau levelling osteotomy for the treatment of cranial cruciate ligament injury in dogs and has performed hundreds of these surgeries since 1999.
She has been a reviewer for journal submissions for the Journal of Small Animal Practice. She has been involved with numerous other clinical and research projects and publications
When not involved in the world of Veterinary Medicine she enjoys traveling, reading, horse riding and spending time with her husband, son, and large collection of animals.
